Lubricating Oils Technology

(1) Characterization of oils
Base oils, lube oils and used oils. We use solvent analysis, DSC, TGA, coking elemental and incompatibility.

(2) Characterization of piston and engine deposits
We use TGA, EDS, elemental, coking, inorganic and electron microscopy.

(3) Liquid-phase air oxidation of oils
Air oxidation of oils at high temperature and characterization of oxidized oils to determine the coke precursors, coke and oxygen intake.

(4) Deposition on metal surfaces by air oxidation at atmospheric pressure
Measure deposit on C/S heat exchanger hot metal surface and in the oil by oxidation with air at high temperatures. Investigate base oil and formulated oil quality and the addition of additives, acids and catalysts.

(5) Deposits formation on metal surfaces by air oxidation at high pressure
Measure deposition on heat exchanger hot metal surface of various metallurgy's
(C/S 1018, S/S 304, S/S 316, S/S 446, aluminum and coated metal(s) using high
air pressure. Test is useful to investigate base oils, lube oils and additives.

(6) Processing and co-processing of used lube oils
Investigate deposition and fouling of used lube oils using high temperature
thermal fouling test units. Simulate process conditions and define solutions
to mitigate processing problems.

(7) Monitoring oils during engine testing
Measure incompatibility of oils during engine testing.
